Sensorial Update
I have been putting a big effort into giving sensorial lessons and the kids have responded by choosing these materials frequently over the last weeks. Here are some highlights:
Just a Great Moment….
We have been working with the sensorial materials quite a bit, and today I turned around and saw these two children deeply concentrating on their work. It was a very cool moment!

A New Look!
It all started late last night as I was trying to add one more shelf to the math area…..
Our room is on the small side and it is very tricky to fit everything in while still making sure the space is pleasing and organized. Four hours later I had finally gotten everything to fit, and addressed all the changes that we had been considering. Here are some pictures of our new layout:
The kids were very interested in the changes when they arrived today. We gathered everyone together and explained that we moved things around to make it easier to work. Then we went on a tour of the classroom together. My assistant and I were amazed at the positive response from the chidlren and the positive changes that came about. We both felt the room to be bigger, which was really interesting. We also noticed an increased visiblity – no “hiding” spots, although the tables are spread out allowing more quiet work areas. Overall, the room feels brighter, more organized and quite refreshing!!

October Week Four Review
This was our first full week back to school after a two week vacation! Monday was a great day as the children seemed eager to get back to “their” space. The children were working so peacefully that we could hear our classical music playing softly in the background. We added many new works this week reflecting the torah portion for the week, which is Noah. We had many animal matching lessons (pairs)!
Here is YS matching animals:
We also had a sorting work that had the children placing different object on each level of the teiva (ark):
Here, SP admires the large puzzle he completed with CN:
Rainbows were also a theme this week and we created a few works with matching. Here, EH sorts the colored disks and places them on the rainbow:
Here is DG doing a similar work but with only three colors:
Rainbow crafts for the week:
This week I attempted to catch up with my sensorial works and I presented the knobless cylinders with templates to match:
I overheard a couple of the children telling themselves to “make the steps”, which I thought was interesting.
This week we continued our work with the visual arts curriculum. We introduced watercolor painting and the children were very interested in this:
This week we also introduced pouring liquids (two pitchers with handles):
